3. William John2 Allgood (Edward1) was born in North Farnham parish, Richmond, VA November 30, 1724. William died September 10, 1798 in Mechlenburg Co., VA. In 1778, he was drafted for service in the Revolutionary army, serving under Captain William Lucas. He was marched from Mecklenburg to Portsmouth, VA. Ten days later, the order was rescinded and he was discharged. Later in 1778, John Allgood was again drafted to go from Mecklenburg County to Portsmouth, under the command of Captain William Pinter. According to Allgood's later recollections, he was gone about fourteen or fifteen days. About 1 January 1781, he was drafted under the Virginia State Troops commanded by General Muhlenburg, Colonel Fleming, Major Ben Jones, Sergeant Richard Easter and Ensign John Bebel. Under this command, he marched through Brunswick and Surry counties to Cabin Point, where he guarded for two months. After that, he marched to Portsmouth, up the Nansemond River. On 5 April 1781, he became ill and was discharged. He returned to his plantation in Mecklenburg County. On 1 August 1781. he was again drafted, this time under Captain Killis Jeffries, Colonel Lewis Burwee and Colonel Walder. He marched to Petersburg. In October of 1781, he was discharged and returned home. I
