Vernon died February 17, 2012 in Taylor Co., GA. OBIT: Vernon Allgood, Sr., 97, entered into rest on Friday, February 17, 2012.

Mr. Allgood was born on June 18, 1915, in Meridian, Mississippi. He and his wife, Dorothy Allgood, established Allgood Electric Company. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star for Bravery and a Purple Heart. He was a charter member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church, and later moved back to Taylor County and rejoined Antioch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of seventy-seven wonderful years, Dorothy Gaultney Allgood; son, Vernon Allgood, Jr.; and parents, Horace F. Allgood and Louella Golden Allgood.

His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved daughter, Gloria Alday, Kathleen; grandchildren, Deborah Wilkerson (Marty), Scott Rowell, Tim Morgan (Karen), Jason Alday, Jonas Alday (Dawn), Tracie Hartley (Kevin), and Trey Allgood; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Fred Allgood, Conehatta, Mississippi.

He married Dorothy Gaultney April 16, 1934 in Crawford Co, GA. Dorothy was born May 31, 1916 in Butler, GA. Dorothy was the daughter of Edgar Gaultney and Carobel Gassett. Dorothy died September 26, 2011. OBIT: Dorothy Gaultney Allgood, 95, entered into rest on Monday, September 26, 2011. -Mrs. Allgood was born on May 31, 1916 in Butler, Georgia, She and her husband, Vernon Allgood, established Allgood Electric Company. She was a charter member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church, where was president of the Women's Missionary Union and a Sunday School Teacher. She later moved back to Taylor County and rejoined Antioch Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School until the age of 90. She was a Pink Lady at Houston Medical Center and chairman of the local Democratic Party. Her favorite hobbies were fishing, gardening, cooking and canning, and she especially loved people. She was preceded in death by her son, Vernon Allgood, Jr.; parents, Edgar Gaultney and Carobel Gassett Gaultney; seven brothers and two sisters. -Her memory will forever be treasured by her beloved and devoted husband of seventy-seven wonderful years, Vernon Allgood; daughter, Gloria Alday (Charles), Kathleen; brother, Willie Gaultney, Reynolds; grandchildren, Deborah Wilkerson (Marty), Scott Rowell, Tim Morgan (Karen), Jason Alday, Jonas Alday (Dawn), Tracie Hartley (Kevin), and Trey Allgood; thirteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. -Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Antioch Baptist Church, in Butler, Georgia, with Reverend Hubert Addleton officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Notes fom Vernon's daughter Gloria. Vernon and Dorothy owned and operated Allgood Electric Co in Warner Robins, Ga unilt October 1984, when they retired to a farm just north of Reynolds, GA. They were prominent members of the antioch Baptist Church were Vernon was a decon and Dorothy taught Sunday School. Vernon was President of the Optimist Club and stayed active in the community activities.
