838. John Thomas6 Matthews (Rebecca5 Allgood, William A.4, John Young3, William2 Algood, Edward1 Allgood) was born in Campbell Co., GA February 3, 1829. John died November 7, 1914 in Coosa Co., AL. Obit: Obituary of Dr. J. T. Matthews: "The subject of this sketch, Dr. John T. Matthews, son of Rev. Willis D. and Rebecca Matthews, was born February 3, 1830 in Campbell County, Georgia. He was in early life scripturally converted at Midway, Meriweather Co., GA., and at once united with the Methodist Church, and was a loyal, faithful and consistent member until called from the church militant to the church triumphant in glory. He studied medicine in Greenville, GA, in 1853 and attended lectures in Augusta, GA. In 1854 he went to Texas, and in 1858 returned to Alabama in April, and again took lectures in Mobile, AL. In September 1860, he was happily married to Miss Fannie A. Norwood, of Coosa County, Alabama. He practiced medicine in partnership with Dr. Solmon at Youngsville (Alex City) from 1860 to 1864, then moved to Kackneyville and practiced from 1864 to 1866, then returned to Alex City, and in 1871 removed to Coosa County, Alabama where he finished his useful and exemplary life as a citizen and Christian physician, November 7, 1914. "He leaves a devoted wife and three children to mourn their loss. James Matthews and Mrs. J. D. Waldrop, of Coosa County, AL and Rev. K. W. Matthews of the North Alabama Conference. "Dr. Matthews was a man of sterling worth. He was kind and thoughtful of his relations, and was proud of his family history. But is was in the quiet precincts of his own private home that the real beauties of his life displayed themselves. His thoughtfulness of their comfort, his tender sympathies and loving ministrations in their affliction and sorrows, made him the true and affectionate husband, the devoted and tender father and grandfather. "He was laid to rest in Andrews Chapel Cemetery, after the funeral services conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. C. Godby, Rev. John W. Robertson of his own lodge, in hope of a glorious resurrection. H.M.S."

His body was interred November 8, 1914 at Andrews Chapel C, Hanover, Coosa Co., AL

He married Sarah Ann Frances Norwood September 18, 1860 in Coosa Co., AL. Sarah was born November 7, 1838 in Greene Co., GA. Sarah died June 12, 1922 in Coosa Co., AL. Sarah Francis was buried at Andrews Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, Coosa Co., AL

John Thomas Matthews and Sarah Ann Frances Norwood had the following children:

3041 vi. twin 1 Matthews was born in Coosa Co., AL August 19, 1878. Twin died August 19, 1878 in Coosa Co., AL. The twins are buried in Hanover Cemetery, next to thier parents.

3042 vii. Twin 2 Matthews was born in Coosa Co., AL August 19, 1878. Twin died August 19, 1878 in Coosa Co., AL. Per F. C. Jones, Marker on Gravestone does not state sex of children
