He married Laverne Pittman April 6, 1940 in Heidelburg, Jasper Co., MS. Laverne was born October 2, 1919 in Waldrup, Jasper Co., MS. Laverne was the daughter of James Obie Pittman and Annie Mae McCormick. Laverne died December 20, 2014 in Natchez, Adams Co., MS. OBIT: Funeral services for Laverne Allgood, 95, of Natchez who died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at her residence, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday December 22, 2014 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Vance Woodcock. and the Rev. Dillon Wickliffe officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Laird Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of service at the church.

Mrs. Allgood was born October 2, 1919 in Waldrup, MS, the daughter of James Obie Pittman and Annie Mae McCormick Pittman. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1951 and taught Sunday school for over 60 years. She was very active in WMU and Young at Heart. She was the office manager of D & L Allgood from 1995 to November 2000. She loved her birthday reunions every October since she was 90. Her love was family, visiting, cooking, and her flower gardens. She also still held and active cosmetology license. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years Dewey Ottis “D.O.” Allgood, a son, Dewey Darrell Allgood, a brother, D.R. Pittman, and three sisters, Mary Frances Allgood, Helen Dixon, and Jewell Rowell.

Survivors include her son: James Kent Allgood of Natchez; one daughter: Dewanna Allgood of Natchez; one grandson: James Kent “Jimmy” Allgood and wife, Carla, of Natchez; one great grandson: Justin Kent Allgood of Natchez; one brother: Tommie Pittman of Columbia, MS; nieces and nephews: Tom Dent Allgood of Busy Corner, MS, Alan Fortenberry of Columbia, MS, Timmy Fortenberry of Petal, MS, Hewitt and Randy Pittman of Jackson, Albert Dixon, Brenda Allgood of Heidelberg, MS and Bet Mosley of Vossburg, MS; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Dewey Ottis Allgood and Laverne Pittman had the following children:

21358 ii. Dewey Darrell Allgood was born in Heidelberg, Jasper Co., MS October 11, 1942. Dewey died January 30, 1944 in Laurel, Jones Co., MS. Dewey is buried in Holders Church Cemetery.

21359 iii. Iris Dewanna Allgood was born in Natchez, Adams Co., MS September 13, 1959. Iris died February 27, 2019 in Natchez, Adams Co., MS.
