John died October 27, 2001 in Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC. OBIT: Dr. John W. Allgood died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at his residence in Greensboro.A service for the celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Christ United Methodist Church. A private interment will be held in Westminster Gardens in Greensboro.

Dr. Allgood was born in Marietta, Ga. on May 30, 1913. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John W. Allgood Sr. Dr. Allgood attended Emory at Oxford in Oxford, Ga. and received his B.S. and medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He served his internships and residencies at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.; Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. and Peter Brent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Mass. Dr. Allgood served in the medical corps of the U.S. Army for four years during World War II. Dr. Allgood came to Greensboro in 1946 and was in the practice of Internal Medicine for 35 years. He was on the staff of St. Leos Hospital, L Richardson Hospital, Wesley Long and Moses Cone Hospitals. He was also a member of several local, state and national medical organizations.

Dr. Allgood was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro where he served as chairman of the Administration Board and served on various committees. He was also a charter member and past president of the Summit Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Dr. Allgood is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elisabeth Turner Allgood; four children, Beth Allgood-McKinnon of Stone Mountain, Ga., Martha Adams and her husband, Morgan Adams of Greensboro, Linda L. Allgood of Clarksville, Tenn. and John W. Allgood III of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Camerin and Corbin Allgood McKinnon of Stone Mountain, Ga., Jonathan, Joshua, Matthew and Maria Adams of Greensboro. Dr. Allgood is also survived by his brother, Dr. Pierce Allgood of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Shirley Noland of Louisville, Ky.

He married Elisabeth Holland Turner March 15, 1952 in Roanoke Rapids Co., NC. Elisabeth was born August 31,1926 in Holllins, Roanoke Co., NC. Elisabeth was the daughter of James Alvin Turner and Lorena Tillman. Elisabeth died April 5, 2014 in Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Elisabeth Turner Allgood, 88, of Greensboro, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at her residence. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 1:00pm in the sanctuary of Christ United Methodist Church with The Reverend Susan Norman Vickers officiating. A private burial will be held. Elisabeth or "Lib" as she was known to so many in Greensboro, was born August 31, 1925 in Hollins, VA. She grew up in Roanoke, VA and following her passion for music graduated from from Westminister Choir College in Princeton, NJ with a Bachelor of Music Degree. Following her graduation, she became the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Morganton, NC; and then upon moving to Greensboro with her beloved husband, Dr. John William Allgood, she became the first Minister of Music at Christ United Methodist Church. She and John were also Charter Members of Christ United Methodist Church when it began in 1956. Lib was a woman who always cared more for others than herself. Putting the work of Jesus into practice, she was a true disciple in caring for her family, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members. Her care and compassion will be missed by many but it will have benefited so many, many more. She is survived by four children, three daughters, Beth Allgood-Justice (Stephen) of Tucker, GA; Martha Allgood Adams (Morgan) of Greensboro; Linda L. Allgood of Greensboro; and a son, John W. Allgood III of Brooklyn, NY; six grandchildren, Jonathan Adams (Jamie) of Greensboro; Joshua Adams (Hannah) of Greensboro; Camerin Watson (Sean) of Charlotte, NC; Matthew Adams (Morgan) of Greensboro; Maria Adams of Greensboro; and Corbin Allgood McKinnon of Tucker/Decatur, GA; six great-grandchildren, Morgan Adams, Leah Adams, Joshua Adams, Jonathan Adams, William Adams, and Samuel Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John William Allgood in 2001.
