Shirley died February 14, 2009 in Waxahachie, Ellis Co. TX. OBIT: Shirley Allgood Noland, 93, died February 14, 2009 in Waxahachie, TX. She was born on January 13, 1916, near Marietta, GA to Olive (Sauls) and John William Allgood , Sr. She always treasured her memories of growing up on her family's dairy farm in this small Methodist Campground community. Her love of the hymns she learned there comforted her to the end of her life. Sandwiched between two brothers, she earned her nickname, "Jimmie", playing with them and on the high school basketball team. She attended her first two years of college at Huntington College in Alabama. She, then, transferred to the University of Georgia where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She was president of the Home Economist club in college. After graduation, she worked in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Georgia as a home demonstration agent. She married in 1939 at her family's homeplace John Everette Noland, Sr., who she had met at the University of Georgia. They divorced in 1964. She was happy to settle in Athens, GA after living in LaGrange, GA, and traveling before and during WW II. She was the first woman real estate agent in Athens where she particularly enjoyed helping young families buy their first homes. Her church, First Methodist, and the friends she made there were most important to her in the 47 years of her life in Athens. Needing care, she moved to Lexington, KY in 1997 to be near her daughter, Shirley Chambliss, and in 2004 to Texas to be near her daughter, Jean Baskin. She was a devoted and loving mother to John Everette Noland, Jr. (Ann Womeldorf), Shirley Noland Chambliss, Mary Allgood Noland (John Conlow), and Jean Noland Baskin. She was predeceased by her beloved siblings: Carrie, Catherine, Florence, Evelyn, John, Pierce, and Ruth. She is survived by eleven grandchildren, Christina Noland Eberle (Brian), Julia Sauls Noland (Daniel Levin), Daniel Kelly Noland (Angie), Noland Clayton Chambliss, Callis Emmit Chambliss and their father, Clayton G. Chambliss, Michael Noland- Conlow, William Noland - Conlow, Jacob Noland Baskin, Roy Quinn Baskin, Benajah Burleson Baskin(Brandie), William Rush Baskin and their father Leland B. Baskin. She is survived by five great and step-great grandchildren, Megan and Michael Eberle, Margaret Levin, Brooklyn and Bostyn Baskin. Her memorial service will be this summer at the Marietta Methodist Campground near her birthplace in Cobb County, Georgia.
She married John Everette Noland 1939.
