Melvia was the daughter of Albert Maxwell Porterfield and Lydia Elizabeth Tennant. Melvia died June 14, 2003 in Beatrice, Gage Co., NE. OBIT: Melvia E. Allgood, 88, Beatrice, formerly of Wymore, died Saturday night, June 14, 2003, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center. She was born Aug. 21, 1914, on a farm near Liberty, spent her childhood in the Liberty-Barneston area, and was a 1931 graduate of Barneston High School. She graduated from beauty school in Beatrice in 1935, and was a licensed beauty operator for 55 years. She operated a beauty shop in Stella for three years following her graduation, and then moved to Wymore where she operated Melvia's Beauty Shop until her retirement. She married Willard Allgood on June 18, 1938, at her parents' home near Liberty. She moved to Beatrice from Wymore in 1994. She was a member of the Wymore United Methodist Church where she was a member of the evening circle and sang in the church choir. Her hobbies included bowling, playing the piano and especially spending time with her family. Survivors: sons, Larry Allgood and wife Pamela of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Roger Allgood and wife Connie of Omaha; grandchildren, Will Allgood, Ben Allgood, Eric Allgood and wife Jenny; and Heather Harrel and husband Jeremiah; four great grandchildren; a brother, Don Porterfield and wife Rosemary of Overland Park, Kan.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard (Oct. 9, 1957); parents, Albert and Lydia (Tennant) Porterfield; son, W. Devern Allgood (March 25, 1976); infant granddaughter, Janet Allgood; brothers, Ralph and Ross Porterfield; and a sister, Betty Ray. Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, Wymore United Methodist Church, 10th and F streets, the Rev. Judith Dye officiating. Burial: Wymore Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Monday and until 11 a.m. Wednesday, and at the church one hour preceding the service.
