James died November 5, 2008 in Glenaire, NC. OBIT: OBIT: James ‘Jim’ Glenn Allgood, 86, of Cary, passed into eternal life Wednesday morning at Glenaire. He was born in Yadkin County on Sept. 9, 1922, the son of John Glenn and Sallie Hoots Allgood. After attending Mars Hill College, he served as an honor guard in the US Army under General Patton in WWII. After the war, he met his future wife, Peggy Lee Renegar. He graduated from NCSU in 1950 with a BS in Animal Science, followed by a Masters in Farm Management. As an agricultural agent, the couple moved from Bryson City, to Beaufort, and Jacksonville before settling in Cary in 1957. He retired as an Associate Professor Emeritus from NCSU and as a Major from the US Army Reserves.

Allgood leaves behind his wife and soul mate of 59 years, Peggy and their two sons, Jim and wife Jeannette of Ft Myers, FL; Greg and wife Lisa of Cincinnati, OH. He loved his granddaughters, Ashton and Meredith, and his daughter by choice, Teresa and husband Don Cleveland. He is survived by siblings Edsel, Sally and Weymouth and wife Wilma. He was also loved by his Renegar in-laws, Gray, wife Avonelle, Fred, Bob and wife Jeanie. He always enjoyed being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sallie Allgood, in-laws, Arthur and Cora Renegar, and siblings, Fred, Clarence and Harriett.

Next to his love for his family, Allgood enjoyed camping with his family, playing bridge, poker, and golf, gardening, especially roses and azaleas, and dancing with his wife. Allgood gave his love of the beach to his children and grandchildren. He was the best crab picker in the world!

Allgood taught his kids that the best we can make of ourselves is to try to do the right thing. He did a lot of things right in his life. He will be remembered as a loving, supportive husband and life partner, the world’s best dad even when that meant discipline, a Christian, a Southern gentleman with a great smile and hardy handshake, and a man who always kept his word and valued people.

A service celebrating his life will be held at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511 on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the home and from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Brown-Wynne Cary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Forest Baptist Church Building Fund, 110 SE Maynard Rd, Cary, NC 27511.

He married Peggy Lee Renegar June 11,1949. Peggy was born July 4, 1929. Peggy was the daughter of Arthur Renegar and Cora Mabe. Peggy died December 12, 2020.
