William died January 3, 2015. OBIT: William “Bill” E. Ankeney, 90, of Greeley passed away January 3, 2015 at Kenton Manor. Bill was born August 24, 1924 in Greeley, CO to Charles Clinton and Florence Sue (McGinnis) Ankeney. He married Elizabeth Meyer on May 21, 1947 in Greeley.

Bill graduated from Greeley High School. He served as President of the student body. After graduation he began hauling corn with his father into Nebraska and Kansas. In 1948 he went to work for Denio Truck Lines hauling milk cans. He became a partner in Welco Milk Lines in 1956 which consisted of the Mapes, Connell, Short and Denio milk lines. Shortly thereafter he became the sole proprietor of Welco and later incorporated the Bethke milk lines into Welco. He ran Welco until his retirement in 1980.

Bill also owned the Platte Valley Rental Company that branched out to own a number of trucks that contracted delivery of Monfort products across the country. He built and ran the Cranford Place Apartments in Greeley and also owned a farm in the Gill area east of Greeley.

Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greeley for 60 years, served as treasurer for 4 years, was a member of the Greeley Jaycees, Greeley Lions Club, served as chairman of the Greeley One Fund (later became the United Fund and now the United Way), served as a member and president of the District 6 School Board, life member of the Greeley Elks, served as Troop Leader for Boy Scout Troop 10 in Greeley, and served on the Stampede Rodeo Committee and later became an “Old Bucker”.

Bill served in the Army Aircorp. He did bombardier training at Texas Tech in October of 1942. He was honorably discharged prior to commission as WWII ended.

Bill loved horses and rodeos, growing roses at home, painting anything around the house he could find, and he proudly posted the U.S. Constitution in his office.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby E. Ankeney; son William James (Synthia H.) Ankeney, Murrells Inlet, SC; daughter Suzan (Dane) Lewis, Greeley, CO; grandchildren, Katina Jordan, Richmond, VA, Jaemie Hillbish, Richmond, VA and William Hovatter, Springville, UT; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Samuel and Nathaniel Hillbish, all of Richmond, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, George Washington Ankeney, Charles Clinton Ankeney, Jr., Thomas Ankeney, Robert Joe Ankeney, Dorothy Elain Merritt, Margaret Elizabeth Ankeney and Betty Jean Ankeney.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 12, 2015 at the First Congregational Church . Inurnment at the First Congregational Church.

William Edwin Ankeney and Ruby Elizabeth Meyer had the following children:
