2302. Donald Allen7 Allgood (Charles Albert6, Charles Alexander5, John Hesser4, Edward3, William2 Algood, Edward1 Allgood) was born in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA August 13, 1920. Donald died July 12, 2001 in Des Moines, Polk Co., IA.

He married Lois Arlene Cox July 27, 1941 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA. Lois was born October 31, 1921 in Mahaska Co., IA. Lois was the daughter of Joy L. Cox and Tressa Gable. Lois died October 29, 2012 in Pella, Mahaska Co., IA. OBIT: Lois Allgood, 90, of Pella, Iowa, and formerly of New Sharon, Iowa, died Monday, October 29, 2012, at Jefferson Place in Pella.

She was born October 31, 1921, near New Sharon, the daughter of Joy L. and Tressa Gable Cox. She graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1939. Early on, she taught country school in Poweshiek County, worked as a clerk at Beal's Grocery, and reported news for the "New Sharon Star."

On July 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Donald Allgood in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Don died July 12, 2001. Following their marriage, they farmed around New Sharon for a time, then they bought a farm near Barnes City, Iowa. In 1961 they bought an acreage in New Sharon. Lois also worked at J.C. Penney's in Oskaloosa for 23 years, retiring from there in December of 1983.

She was a very active member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, where she was involved in United Methodist Women, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School Teacher for many years, Secretary to the Trustee Committee, and co-chair of the Funeral Committee. She was also active in 4-H, serving as a leader and on committees. Also, Lois and Don were very involved in the Democratic Party in Mahaska County for many years.

Lois was a very devoted wife, mother, and community member. She gave of her time and talents to serve the needs of her family and community. In the years after Don passed away, Lois enjoyed many trips, including one to New Zealand and Australia she took when she was 85 years old. She enjoyed an active life until she broke her hip in 2006, and later moved to Friendship Village in Pella in 2007. Early on she enjoyed roller skating, bowling, and square dancing. She also enjoyed horses, harness racing, and word finds. She was an avid gardener, especially proud of her strawberry and sweet corn patches.

Her family includes her two children and their spouses, Pat and Curt Hite of Pella, and Dennis and Kathy Allgood of Eugene, Oregon; five grandchildren, Denise Hite, Clint (and Natalie) Hite, Sarah (and Rob) Beach, Emily Allgood, and Jennifer Allgood; one great grandson, Caden Hite; two sisters, Erma Lincoln of Grinnell and Marjorie McIssac of Rancho Cordona, California; a brother and his wife, Gerald and Emily Cox of Vancouver, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Cox.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with Pastor Jonathan Heikes officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery near New Sharon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Wednesday after 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
