6974. Nellie Winifred7 Blackketter (John Spencer6, John Wesley5, John Spencer4, Elizabeth (Betsy)3 Allgood, Ishmael2, Edward1) was born in Leedy, Dewey Co., OK May 31, 1902. Nellie died February 2002. Obit: NELLIE WINIFRED BROOME, 99, died Saturday at her home. A native of Leedey, Okla., she lived in Redlands 60 years. She was a clerk at Norton Air Force Base for 10 years. She worked with the Peace Corps and VISTA when she was in her 60s. She graduated from San Bernardino Valley College when she was in her 70s. She attended Green Valley Foursquare Church in Yucaipa. Mrs. Broome is survived by two sons, Herman of Calimesa and Edgar of Yucca Valley; four daughters, June Estopinal and Doris Gilmour, both of Yucaipa, Sharon Sorbello of Davis and Myrna Barstow of Calimesa; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She married Carl William Broome September 2, 1924 in Westville, Adair Co., OK. Carl was born May 15, 1904 in Texmo, Roger Mills, OK. Carl was the son of Tobias (Tobe) Jacob Broome and Mary Edna Donathan. Carl died November 14, 1988 in Redlands, San Bernardino Co., CA. OBIT: Carl W. Broome, a former area resident, died November 14, 1988 at the home of his daughter, Sharon Sorbelto in Redlands, California. Born May 5, 1904, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tobe Broome, pioneer settler of Western Oklahoma. Carl graduated from Leedey High School with the Class of 1922 and attended A&M College in Stillwater. He is survived by six children, his grand and great grandchildren. Burial was in Forrest Lane Cemetery in Corvina, California. 17356 vi. Shirley Broome was born in De Beque, Mesa Co., CO October 10, 1933. Shirley died January 21, 1935 in Gallop, McKinley Co., NM. According to Kimberly Sorbello, Shirley Broome was born in December 1932 on a homesteaded island in the Colorado River near De Beque, CO and died in Gallop, New Mexico of pneumonia as a complication of measles while en route from Colorado to California. She was buried in an Indian graveyard, but her headstone kept getting stolen, so Carl and Nelle (her parents) had her body exhumed and buried in Westville, Oklahoma where Nelle's parents are buried.
