Esther died July 10, 2002 in Weatherford, Custer Co, OK. OBIT: Esther Lucille Blackketter Bailey, a homemaker and mother of nine children, died on July 10, 2002, at Southwestern Memorial Hospital, Weatherford, Oklahoma. She succumbed to congestive heart failure, complicated by pneumonia. Esther was born April 12, 1921, to Koert Charles and Nellie Studebaker Blackketter near Leedey, Oklahoma. She grew up in the Red Star community west of Leedey. Esther attended and graduated from Jubbok Bible School near Thomas, Oklahoma. It was there that she met Fred K. Bailey of the school community of Parallel near Putnam, Oklahoma. In the fall of 1939, Esther went to Upland, California, and enrolled at Beulah College where Fred was also a student. During their college years, Esther and Fred's relationship flourished. They were married in Upland, CA, September 13, 1941. Soon after their marriage; the young Baileys returned to Oklahoma and took over the operation of Fred's parents' farm in the Parallel community. While living at Parallel, four children were born to Esther and Fred. In 1952, The Bailey family moved to Jabbok Bible School where Fred took the job of farm supervisor and school business manager. Two more children joined the family while they were at Jabbok. In 1955, having sold their Dewey County property, the Baileys moved to a farm northeast of Weatherford where they established a Grade 'A' dairy and irrigated-farming business. They became especially well know in Registered Milking Shorthorn circles. From April of 1974 through June of 1978 the Baileys ventured into a dairying operation near Siloam Springs, Arkansas. While there, Esther particularly enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers. She took great pleasure in preparing meals from produce raised in her own garden and always had plenty to serve any unexpected guests and the farm workers. Mr. And Mrs. Bailey gave up their dairy operation and returned to a home near Weatherford where they resided at the time of Esther's death. Esther was, first and foremost a full-time wife and mother. Active in the family's business, she was hands on knowledgeable with the dairy and farming operation. She enjoyed the times any of the family came home and hated to leave the room because she 'might miss something!!' Having a great love of music, she particularly enjoyed hearing and watching the impromptu singing and instrumental numbers by her family. One of the hallmarks of Mrs. Bailey's life was her Christian faith. She received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior early in life and joined the Brethren in Christ Church. For a number of years, she was active in the Pleasant View Mennonite Church. Preceding Esther in death were daughter, Carmen Sue Bailey; parents, Koert and Nellie Blackketter, and infant sister, Nellie Janice Blackketter.
