Robert died April 11, 2011 in Clear Lake, SD. OBIT: Robert William Blackketter, 60, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Sanford Hospital in Clear Lake.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rude’s Funeral Home.

Robert William Blackketter was born Dec. 29, 1950, in Guymon, Okla., the son of James F. and Delores A. (Conroy) Blackketter. Robert’s family moved to South Dakota in 1953, making their home in Batsland, Geddes, Lake Andes and Burke before moving to Bruce in 1967.

Robert was active in 4-H during his grade-school years and graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1970.

He attended South Dakota State University and worked for the Forestry Department in the Black Hills during the summer.

He went to work for the 3M Company in 1980, working in various departments until his retirement in 2009.

Robert married Patricia Bendt on May 18, 2001, in Brookings. They made their home in Brookings until moving to Astoria.

Robert enjoyed nature and what it had to offer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and teaching his grandsons about nature and the things he enjoyed.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Blackketter of Astoria; a daughter, Krystal (Barry) Wingfield of Astoria; his parents, James and Delores Blackketter of Lakewood, Colo.; two sisters, Linda (John) VandeWeerd of Bruce and Debbie (Chuck) Hedin of Lakewood, Colo.; three brothers, Darrell Blackketter of Winona, Minn., Jerry Blackketter of Estelline and John (Valerie) Blackketter of Marbel, Colo.; and three grandsons.
