Mabel died December 20, 1964 in Longmont, Boulder Co., CO. OBIT: Mable was born in Atlas Township, Pike County, Illinois to Henry Taylor Montgomery Hamner and Mary Estella Manker Hamner. She was not given a middle name at the time of her birth so she could choose her own when she was old enough. She chose "Lavora" for her middle name. She was 13 years old when her father died and it fell to her to help raise her four younger sisters. She assisted her mother in operating a telephone switchboard in Rockport, Illinois.
On May 1, 1919 she married Harold W. Drummond. They lived in Independence, Illinois for a time on a farm. Then she became a telephone operator at Rockport and Harold worked as a lineman. They also worked at Barry, Nebo and Hardin, Illinois. They had two children: Heraldine Marie and Patricia Ruth Drummond. She and Harold divorced. Mable moved with her daughter Patricia to East Alton to live with her daughter Heraldine and help with her children.
On August 5, 1950, she married Cecil Battershell in Macomb, Illinois. They lived on a farm in Spring Creek Township in Pike County, Illinois and later moved to a farm near Pleasant Hill, Illinois. After his death, she and Patricia moved to Pittsfield, Illinois and later Longmont, Colorado where her daughter Heraldine was then living.
Mable was a member of the Christian Church and a person devoted to helping others.
She married twice. She married Harold Drummond May 1, 1919. Harold was born May 1, 1900 in IL. Harold was the son of Charles Lloyd Drummond and Fanny Susan Williams. Harold died June 1972 in Hardin, Calhoun Co., IL. She married Cecil Battershell August 5, 1950 in Macomb, McDonough Co., IL. Cecil was born January 30, 1902. Cecil died February 1984 in Robinson, Crawford Co., IL.
Mabel Hamner and Harold Drummond had the following children:
