He married Mary Louise Patterson May 1, 1950 in Auburn, Nemaha Co., NE. Mary was born April 14, 1929 in Peru, Nemaha Co., NE. Mary was the daughter of Henry Patterson and Ruby (___). Mary died March 5, 2014 in Superior, Nuckolls Co., NE. OBIT: Mary Louise Applegate, the daughter of Hanley and Ruby (Pratt) Patterson, was born on April 14, 1929 in Peru, Nebraska. She passed away on March 5, 2014 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 10 months, 19 days.

Mary was one of six children; she attended public school in Peru graduating from Peru High School. She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church. She was united in marriage to Robert Edward Applegate on May 1, 1950 in Auburn, Nebraska and to this union three children were born.

She lived in the communities of Peru and Gandy. She moved to Superior, Nebraska in 1957. Mary was a member of the Bakers Dozen Extension Club, Brodstone Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and she was a volunteer at the Nifty Thrifty.

She crocheted numerous afghans for her children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends, and dogs. She also crocheted over 300 names for family and friends. She enjoyed making beaded jewelry and baking and was well known for her noodles and rolls. She liked to read recipe and mystery books, and collected china shoes and thimbles. Mary always made birthdays special for each family member with a decorated birthday cake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob on February 6, 2004; three brothers, Harold, Carl and Harry Patterson and two sisters, Leota Morris and Lucile Hunzeker.

Mary is survived by her children Peggy Aldrup and husband Tim of Hardy, Nebraska, Robert Applegate II and wife Dorthy of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jerry Applegate and wife Diane of Kearney, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Ben, Charlie and Mike Applegate and Amanda and Adrienne Applegate; brother-in-law Sidney Applegate and wife Sara of Glenrock, Wyoming and sister-in-law Janie Henning and husband Charles of Peru, Nebraska; brother-in-law Fred Gfeller of Peru, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Robert Edward Applegate and Mary Louise Patterson had the following children:
