2647. Donald Edward7 Allgood (Fred Herbert6, James Matthew5, Varney Edward4, Edward3, William2 Algood, Edward1 Allgood) was born in Douglas Co., NE April 8, 1916. Donald died September 24, 2005 in Omaha, Dodge Co., NE. In memory of Donald Allgood, who was at one time my paper carrier: (As written by a staff writer for the local newspaper) Donald and Judy Allgood.

She had a petite, 5-foot-2 frame. He stood over 6 feet tall.

She smoked. He didn't.

Judy and Donald Allgood may have seemed like an odd couple, but relatives said the pair had complementary personalities. They were both hard-working, loving and understanding grandparents.

The Omaha couple, married for more than 30 years, died minutes apart in what relatives called a fitting end for two people who had depended on each other.

Donald E. Allgood, 89, died at the Maple Crest Care Center early Saturday. He had suffered from prostate and colon cancer, congestive heart failure and Alzheimer's disease. Judy L. Allgood, 66, died 90 minutes later at the center. She had been battling diabetes, emphysema, asthma and a respiratory tract infection.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westlawn Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Judy Cook was born in Jefferson, Iowa, but grew up in Omaha. She liked to watch sports and drink her coffee black. She had four children - George, Tony, Jeff and Michael - from a previous marriage.

Donald Allgood, a native of Omaha, had two children - Marsha and Robert. He was a sports fanatic who brought his future wife into the game. He met Cook at the Benson Grill, a restaurant he owned from 1962 to 1976. She was a waitress.

The couple married in 1973 and had a son, Marc.

In 1976, Donald's health began to fail, and Judy could no longer work 15-hour days to keep the grill running. So the couple sold the business.

In 1978, the couple moved to Eden, Texas, but returned to Omaha in 1981. Judy was a cashier at Baker's Supermarket near 72nd Street and Ames Avenue up until her death.

As Donald's health worsened in 2004, he was placed in the care center. Judy moved into the Maple Crest Condominiums across the street.

"Their lives revolved around each other and their children," said son Jeff Peters of Omaha.

After Donald's death, Judy called their son, Marc Allgood of Deer Park, Ill., at 3:13 a.m. Saturday.

"She gave me the news of my father's death," he said. "She sounded very short of breath. She had been sick with respiratory infection for about a week. My main concern was her. . . . She didn't sound very good."

Later that day, Allgood tried calling his mother, but there was no answer. He called his brother Jeff, who was on his way to visit her.

"We found her slumped over in a chair," Peters said. "After she had called my brother, she may have had a coughing spell and everything ended in that place."

Donald and Judy Allgood loved watching baseball, basketball and Husker football games. He called her "sweetie" and "mom." She never left his side without giving him a kiss and saying, "I love you."

"Although I am very troubled by their deaths, I can say I am very happy they are together," said Marc Allgood.

The couple were preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Allgood, and a son, George Peters. Survivors include sons Tony Peters of Lincoln and Michael Peters and Robert Allgood, both of Omaha; Donald's sister, Lillian Riley of Omaha; and Judy's brother, Dane Kious of Jefferson, Iowa.
