James died December 1, 2005 in McComb, Pike Co., MS. Obit: Services for J. Wayne Allgood, of Brookhaven, are 10 a.m. Monday at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Allgood, 84, died Dec. 1, 2005, at Camellia Estates in McComb. He was born on Oct. 18, 1921, to the late Dorsey S. Allgood and Anna Hammock Allgood.

He was retired from the U.S. parole commission. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven. He received a bachelor's degree at Louisiana College and a master's degree at Louisiana State University. He was a former deacon at First Baptist Church, of Richardson, Texas, and was an associate warden and warden at Angola Prison in Louisiana. He was a professor of sociology at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his wife of 56 years, Deta Bird Allgood.

Survivors are his daughter, Judy Wallace and husband, Joe, of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, Laura Keel and husband, Daniel, of Chuglak, Alaska, Jennifer Smith and husband, Micheal, of Denham Springs, La., and Stan Wallace and wife, Melinda, of Shreveport, La.; and eight great-grandchildren

He married Deta Bird 1944. Deta was born October 1, 1923 in Peck, LA. Deta was the daughter of Audley Verne Bird and Virginia Lee Furr. Deta died December 13, 2000 in Brookhaven, Lincoln Co., MS.

James Wayne Allgood and Deta Bird had the following child:
