Billie Carolyn (Pete)9 Barnes (Ella Verdell8 Allgood, John Thomas7, John Willis6, John Young5, William A.4, John Young3, William2 Algood, Edward1 Allgood) was born in Rockmart, Polk Co., GA May 15, 1934. Billie died April 28, 2007 in Forest Park, Clayton Co., GA. Obit: Billie Carolyn Barnes Rodgers known affectionately to many as “Pete” was born in Rockmart, Ga. on May 15, 1934. She had courageously endured a failing body for many years before angels carried her to be with the Lord on April 28, 2007.
She was a devoted military wife, a full-time mother and homemaker until her husband’s retirement brought them to Forest Park, Ga. in 1968. She was retired from Delta Air Lines.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James C. (Jim) Rodgers, her parents, Cary W. (Bill) and Verdell Allgood Barnes, and her sister, Faye Johnson.
She served the Lord faithfully and claimed the body of Rock Springs Baptist Church as her church family. Although her stature was small, within her heart she found it easy to share her love and generosity with family, friends and neighbors as well as countless strangers who were in need.
She made the world a better place during her lifetime and the void left will forever be empty. She will b sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters, Denise and Steve Thomas, Kingston Springs, Tenn., Ruth and Jim Carr, Forest Park, Ga.; son, Ray Rodgers, Murphy, N.C.; sisters, Ruth Nichols, Baldwin, Ga., Jo Ballard, Cedartown, Ga.; six grandchildren, Carly and Stephanie Thomas, Jamie and JR Rodgers, Daniel Carr and Audrey and John Austin; two nieces who have remained faithfully devoted and steadfast during her life and throughout her illness, Vickie Ballard of Cedartown and Bonnie Bartlett Parker of Baldwin; and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Chapel of Thomas L. Scroggs Funeral Directors with Rev. Daniel Parker and Rev. Tommy Aman officiating. Family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Providence Hospice, 1550 Rock Quarry Road, Stockbridge, Ga. 30281.
She married James C., (Jim) Rodgers. James was born April 13, 1924. James died December 26, 1999 in Douglasville, Douglas Co., GA.
Billie Carolyn (Pete) Barnes and James C., (Jim) Rodgers had the following children:
