Larry died January 13, 2009 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA. OBIT: Larry D. Allgood, 64, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born July 9, 1945, at Oskaloosa, the son of Willis Dean and Evelyn Smith Allgood. He graduated from the Eddyville High School with the class of 1963. Following high school, he worked construction, and also worked at the Eddyville Drag Strip into the early 1970s. Later, he joined the union and began working in the maintenance department at Maytag Corp in Newton. On June 11, 1965, he was married to Rita McDonough, and later divorced. On Oct. 26, 1996, he was united in marriage to Denise Van Wyk near Oskaloosa. Later, he worked for various sub contractors at Cargill near Eddyville. Recently, he was a welder and millwright, and currently worked at Westcon in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed racing and watching races, building race cars, and woodworking, but his family was his delight and passion.
His family includes his wife, Denise Allgood, of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Angie (& John) Plumb and Amy Allgood, all of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a great-grandson; three stepsons: Dustin (& Jennifer) Van Wyk and Derek (& Mereydth) Van Wyk, all of Lynnville, and Devin Van Wyk, of Sully; and a sister: Sharon (& Duaine) Braden, of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a stillborn son, Robbie Allgood.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Rev. Charles McMillian officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Corners Cemetery near Eddyville.
Visitation will begin on Thursday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
He married twice.
Larry D. Allgood and Denise L. Van Wyk had the following children:
