Mr. Smith, 72, of Brookhaven passed away January 2. He was born on March 7, 1941 to Herman Howard Smith, Sr. and Novice Wiggins Smith. He was a Veteran serving in the United States Navy and Army Special Forces and was a member of Southway Baptist Church. He was an outdoorsman and an avid fisherman with numerous close friends and fishing buddies.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Sandra Ainsworth Smith; brother-in-law Elmo Rushing; special friend Peggy Mansell.

He is survived by sons Herman "Shane" Smith & wife Karen, Christopher "Shawn" Smith & wife Heidi, Brandon Michael Smith & wife Adrienne; brother Sidney Allan Smith; sister Carolyn Smith Rushing; 4 grandchildren Sandra Nicole "Sandy" Smith Stewart, Carson Shawn Smith, Oliver Quinn Smith, Emery Michael Smith; uncle Truly A. Smith; and nieces and nephews.

He married Sandra Marie Ainsworth. Sandra was born November 28, 1940. Sandra was the daughter of Henry Harrison Ainsworth and Lilllian Marie Townsend. Sandra died October 1, 1972.

Herman Howard Smith JR and Sandra Marie Ainsworth had the following children:
