Annie died August 5, 2001 in Morganton, Burke Co., NC. OBIT: Mrs. Annie Adams Speer, 86, of Sugartown Road passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Yadkin Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Yadkin County to the late Emmett Melton and Ora Dinkins Melton.
Mrs. Speer was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Oben Adams on Jan. 22, 1974. Surviving are her husband, Luther Speer of Yadkinville; a son, Mr. Hugh (Gertrude) Adams of Yadkinville; a daughter, Mrs. Nellie (Granville) Blevins of Yadkinville; three granddaughters, Joy Adams (Jerome) Kay and Robin Blevins of Yadkinville and Karen Baker of Boonville; great-granddaughters, Jennifer Kay and Jordan Kay of Yadkinville and Brianne Baker of Boonville; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Martin and Blake Goins, both of Yadkinville; and two sisters, Ruth Frye and Etta Steelman, both of Yadkinville.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. C.G. White. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 North, Yadkinville.
She married twice. She married William Luther Speer. William was born June 22, 1909 in Yadkin Co., NC. William was the son of William Ashbury Speer and Sarah Elizabeth Hunter. William died September 7, 2001 in Yadkin Co., NC. She married Oben Garfield Adams 1935. Oben was born August 15, 1913 in Yadkin Co., NC. Oben was the son of D. Agbert Adams and Lucy Candle. Oben died January 22, 1974 in Elkin, Surry Co., NC. Oben was buried in the Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC
