He married Beulah Mae Smart May 15, 1929. Beulah was born October 21, 1904 in Fort Lyon Co., MO. OBIT: Beulah Mae Smart Aly, age 100, died on Monday, May 9, 2005. Funeral service will be conducted by Dr. Kyle Reese at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, at Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Mrs. Aly was born Oct. 21, 1904, in Fort Lyon County, Mo., the third child of Thomas B. and Nellie Coe Smart. During her childhood, the family moved to Texas, settling in Waxahachie, where she graduated high school in 1923.

On May 15, 1929, she was married to Carroll Truett Aly, a licensed and ordained Baptist minister. In 1934, the couple graduated Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas. They served as pastor and pastor’s wife in 24 Baptist churches in Texas and Oklahoma for more than 53 years. They also served in Enid, Okla., where the Rev. Aly was a chaplain at Bass Memorial Hospital, and Mrs. Aly was an active volunteer.

On her 72nd birthday, the couple retired in San Angelo where the Rev. Aly had previously served as pastor of Park Heights Baptist Church from 1945 to 1948, following his serving as chaplain in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific Theater.

Mrs. Aly, who became a Christian at age 11, taught Sunday school until age 96 when her eyesight prevented her from further teaching. She remained active in the mission program of her church and to the age of 98 she directed the Homebound Department at The Heights Baptist Church.

Mrs. Aly was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, by her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. Her surviving brother is Stanlee Smart of Houston, Texas.

She is likewise survived by her son, Carroll T. Aly Jr. and his wife, Wilma, of San Angelo; her daughter, Jo Helen Swink and husband J.W. of Houston; and foster daughter and son-in-law Dr. Lydia and Dr. Dan Hilty of Arvada, Colo. Surviving grandchildren are Jim Aly of Sterling, Va., David Aly and wife Deborah of Chicago, Cheryl Swink Duke and husband Dan of Del City, Okla., Belinda Swink Sapp and husband Carl, and Daryle Swink of Houston. Her foster grandson is Jeffrey Hilty of Palm Springs, Calif. Mrs. Aly’s great-grandchildren are Crissy Aly Ingram and husband Tim and Jenny Aly of Birmingham, Ala., David Aly Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Bryan Duke of Fort Drum Army Base, N.Y., Jeffrey Duke and Cristina Duke of Del City, Okla., Sean Aly and Thomas Aly of Early, Texas, and Caleb Sapp, Joshua Sapp and Brandon Swink of Houston. Her great-great-grandson is Cameron Ingram of Birmingham, Ala. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.

Beulah was the daughter of Thomas B. Smart and Nellie Coe.

Beulah died May 9, 2005 in San Angelo, Tom Green Co., TX.
