Mary died June 23, 2000 in Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., GA. OBIT: Mrs. Mary Frank Whitehead, 78, of Homewood Hills, Athens, died Friday, June 23, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Annie Bell Allgood Jackson. Mrs. Whitehead had retired from Westinghouse in 1987 after 29 years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Athens. Mrs. Whitehead shared 61 years of a loving marriage with John B. Whitehead. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Elaine Mathis, Kathryn Griffith and Brenda Strickland; and son-in-law, Paul Griffith. She is known as ''DaDa'' to her five grandchildren, Jeff Griffith, Deana Simpson, Jennifer Strickland, Jaime Strickland and Terri Mathis; and to her three great-grandchildren, Kasie Griffith, Jacob Griffith and Joshua Simpson. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 25 at Bridges Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the First Christian Church of Athens, Monday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Ray Austin officiating. Mrs. Whitehead will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Reynolds, Mike Jackson, Brantley Jackson, Scottie Jackson, Mike Woodall and Marshall Graham. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. She married John Barnhart Whitehead May 21, 1939. John was born July 20, 1919. John was the son of James Monroe Whitehead and Lizzie (Belle) Ward. John died April 25, 2002 in Milledgeville, Baldwin Co., GA. OBIT: John B. Whitehead, 82, of S. Homewood Drive, Athens, passed away Thursday April 25, 2002. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Whitehead was a son of the late James Monroe and Lizzie Belle Ward Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frank Jackson Whitehead. He had attended The University of Georgia and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the former owner of Dave Gordon Auto Supply and was a member of the First ChristianChurch. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, with the Revs. Ray Austin and Bob Nash officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Elsie A. Whitehead, Athens; three daughters and a son-in-law, ElaineMathis, Athens, Kathryn and Paul Griffith, Bogart, Brenda Strickland, Bogart; five grandchildren, Jeff Griffith, Deana Simpson, Jennifer Strickland, Jaime Strickland, Terri Mathis; three greatgrandchildren, Kasie Griffith, Jacob Griffith, Joshua Simpson; 2 stepdaughters and spouses,Janet and John Konency of Athens and Carole and Lance Andrews of Hollywood, FL and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be John Konecny, Marshall Graham, Scott Simpson, Billy Andrews, Jerry Griffith,Dwight Vaughn.
