James died August 19, 2011 in Milledgeville, GA. OBIT: James Webster Allgood Sr., 90, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, of Athens, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. He was born in Oconee County March 27, 1921 and was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Webster and Camilla Burgess Allgood. Mr. Allgood retired from Bell's Food Markets having worked there for 46 years. He was a decorated Army soldier, served in Central Europe in Btry "E" 0f 659th FABN. and received several decorations and citations, including the World War II Victory Medal. He was a long time member of Young Harris Memorial UMC and served as Sunday School Class President and President of the Men's Club. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Nunnally Allgood; daughters, Lisa A. Bryant (John,) and Margie A. Hancock (Larry); sons: James W. Allgood Jr.(Monnie) and Jeffery J. Allgood (Kelly); nine grandchildren, Jay Hancock, Scott Hancock, Mandy Thornton (Craig), Justin Allgood (Crystal), Jessica Allgood, Web Allgood, Trevor Allgood, Brady Allgood, and Ava Allgood; three great grandchildren, Derek Hancock, Mara Hancock, and Camila Sky Thornton. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bernstein's Funeral Home. Services officiated by the Rev. Luther Fouche and the Rev. Cary Gibson will be on Monday, August 22, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Jay Hancock, Scott Hancock, Justin Allgood, Web Allgood, Keith Wilson and Joe Brightwell. Honorary Pallbearers are Trevor Allgood, Brady Allgood, Derek Hancock and Craig Thornton.
He married Mavis Amanda Nunnally December 24, 1947 in Clarke Co., GA. Mavis was born December 7, 1922 in Athens, Clarke Co., GA. Mavis was the daughter of Joe Putnam Nunnally and Mabel Bond. Mavis died March 18, 2018 in Athens, Clarke Co., GA.
