8237. Samuel Graves8 Allgood JR (Samuel Graves7, John James6, William Edward5, Holwell Edward4, John Young3, William2 Algood, Edward1 Allgood) was born in Sandy Creek, Vance Co., NC June 26, 1923. Samuel died August 10, 1990 in Summerville, Dorchester Co., SC. OBIT: Sam Allgood grew up on his family's dairy farm in Warren County, North Carolina. When WWII came, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Europe. While in training, he met and married Alice Jane Dillehay in Owensboro, KY. Following WWII, he went into broadcast journalism on radio at WKCT in Bowling Green, KY. The Korean War broke out and he returned to active duty and fought in Korea. When he returned, he went to work for WHAS in Louisville, KY. He worked at WHAS from 1952 to 1966.
In 1967, Sam went to work for the Department of the Army producing training films for the Armor Division at Ft. Knox, KY. He also held similar positions with the DOA in South Korea, Thailand, and the Panama Canal Zone.
Sam and Alice retired in the Charleston, SC area where they enjoyed touring the local plantations and playing golf.
He married Alice Jane Dillehay August 5, 1944 in Owensboro, Daviess Co., KY. Alice was born March 2, 1926 in Calhoun, McLean Co., KY. Alice was the daughter of John William Dillehay and Beulah Josephine White. Alice died March 11, 2001 in Nashville, Davidson Co., TN. OBIT: Alice was born in Calhoun, KY and spent her early years on the family farm in McLean County, KY. The family moved to Owensboro, KY by the time she went to high school and she graduated from Owensboro High School. After high school, she met and married Sam Allgood who was in the Army preparing to go to Europe in WWII.
Alice was an accomplished pianist and vocalist and studied at the University of Louisville for a time. Most of her adult life was devoted to being a wife and the mother of three children.
Samuel Graves Allgood JR and Alice Jane Dillehay had the following children:

19002 iv. Samuel Groves Allgood III was born in Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN June 14, 1963. Samuel died June 14, 1963 in Jeffersonville, Clark Co., IN.
