11162. John Dallas8 Allgood (John William7, Samuel Thomas6, James F.5, Joseph Royal4, William (Pikey) Henry3, William John2, Edward1) was born in Olgethorpe Co., GA December 4, 1917. John died May 1, 1991 in Richmond, Henrico Co., VA. OBIT: John D. Allgood, a Colonial Williamsburg ''hammerman,'' or blacksmith, for 33 years, died Thursday, May 2, in Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, Richmond.
Mr. Allgood was born in Oglethorpe County, Ga., and had been an area resident since 1948.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Crittendon Allgood; three daughters, Angela Singley of Williamsburg, Becky Metcalfe of St. Joseph, Mich., and Sylvia Anderson of Kennett Square, Pa.; two sons, Larry Allgood and Pat Allgood of Williamsburg; three sisters, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Williamsburg Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry M. Haywood.
He married Julia Estelle Crittenden. Julia was born October 5, 1919 in Elbert Co., GA. Julia was the daughter of Lloyd Harper Crittenden and Rebecca Estelle Vaughn. Julia died July 30, 2001 in Williamsburg, James Co., VA. OBIT: Julia E. Crittendon Allgood, 81, widow of the late John D. Allgood, of Williamsburg, Va., died Monday, July 30, 2001. Born in Elberton County, Ga., on Oct. 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Rebecca and Lloyd Crittendon. Mrs. Allgood retired from Colonial Williamsburg as a milliner in the Margaret Hunter Milliner Shop in 1981.
She was the beloved mother of son, Larry, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Baker Allgood; son, Patrick, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Gordon Allgood; daughter, Angela, and son-in-law, Robert Singley, all of Williamsburg; daughter, Sylvia, and son-in- law, Raymond Anderson, of West Chester, Pa.; daughter, Becky, and son-in-law, L.D. Metcalfe, of St. Joseph, Mich. Mrs. Allgood was blessed with 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She has two surviving brothers, Wendall and Kenneth Crittendon, and three sisters, JoAnn Morgan, Shirley Chapman and Rosalie Bailey. Other surviving family members in the area include Annette and Steve Specht and Audrey Crittendon, of Hampton, Va. She also has a surviving sister-in- law, Louise Berryman, of Carlton, Ga.
John Dallas Allgood and Julia Estelle Crittenden had the following children:
