She married Ralph John August Nold. Ralph was born June 27, 1916 in O'Fallon, St Clair Co., IL. Ralph was the son of Edwin Nold and Elsie (___). Ralph died February 5, 2010 in Suffolk, Nansemond Co., VA. OBIT: Ralph John Nold, age 93, died February 5, 2010, in Suffolk, VA. Dr. Nold was born June 27, 1916, in O'Fallon, Illinois, only child of Edwin and Elsie Nold of Belleville, Illinois. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Erma Ayscue Nold, and his daughter, Barbara Jean Nold Howard. Dr. Nold is survived by his son, Michael Gary Nold, and his wife Gail of Suffolk, VA, their children, Whitney Nold Bush and her husband Jay of Richmond, VA and Brian Michael Nold and his wife Susan of Hohokus, NJ. He is also survived by his daughter Barbara's husband, Jack Howard, Jr., and their children, Erin Howard Arnett and husband Tom of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Howard of Portland, OR, and Jack Howard III (Trey) of San Francisco, CA, as well as by six great-grandchildren. After attending Northwestern Military Academy, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois, majoring in civil engineering. Dr. Nold received his medical degree in Radiology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was initiated into Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Fraternity. Dr. Nold was most proud of his service in World War II in the European Theatre. He attained the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps, serving on the hospital ship "Thistle" in the campaigns of North Africa, Rome, Arno, and the Rhineland with his future wife Erma, a lieutenant. They were both present during the Liberation of Paris. He later achieved the rank of Major in the Army Reserve, serving at the New Orleans Public Hospital. After his military career, Dr. Nold served as Chief Radiologist for four decades at DePaul Hospital. He also worked at Lake Taylor Community Hospital, and was a member of the American Radiological Society. The family wishes to thank the Memory Unit Staff of Lake Prince Woods for their care. They feel a special gratitude to his devoted private caregiver, Mrs. Jo Looney, and her husband Stan of Suffolk, VA. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010, at the Albert G.
