He married twice. He married Eugenia (Gennie) Brantley. He married Effie Faye Wood 1931. Effie was born July 19, 1910 in Wilkes Co., NC. Effie was the daughter of William Henry Harrison Wood and Minnie Lou Cothran. Effie died April 7, 1997 in Raleigh, Wake Co., NC.

She married Caswell Ellis Spencer. Caswell was born September 19,1907 in Franklin Co., NC. Caswell was the son of Joseph L. Spencer and Josephine Rudd. Caswell died March 4, 1960 in Franklin Co., NC. She married (____) Harris.

5772 vii. Gilbert Thomas Smith was born in Franklin Co., NC June 15, 1921. Gilbert died 1970 in Franklin Co., NC.
