John died January 9, 1998 in Elberton, Elbert Co. GA. OBIT: John Starke Allgood, 85, of 2903 River Road died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998. A native of Yazoo City, Miss., Mr. Allgood was a son of the late June C. Allgood and Annie Pearle Durham Allgood. Mr. Allgood was a retired farmer and salesman for Bicknell Granite Supplies. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees, and was a member of the Elberton VFW. He was a member of the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25 and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. Mr. Allgood was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Rev. Merry Porter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Elberton. Survivors include his wife, Vivian Rose Coogler Allgood; two sons, John Starke Allgood Jr., Woonbine, Md., and Thomas Wickliffe Allgood, Elberton; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Randy Parham, Mike Baston, Ben Smith, Tom McCall, Rusty Adams and Galen Mills.
He married Vivian Rose Coogler. Vivian was born 1916. Vivian was the daughter of Talmadge Townsend Coogler and Josephine Blanche (__). Vivian died July 17, 2002 in Elberton, Elbert Co. GA. OBIT: Vivian Rose Coogler Allgood, 86, of 2903 River Road, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002.
A native of Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Allgood was a daughter of the late Talmadge Townsend Coogler and Ida Josephine Bianchi Coogler and was the widow of John Starke Allgood. She was a homemaker, a retired office manager in the granite industry, and past president of Fortsonia School PTA, the Elks Auxiliary and the Pine Tree Garden Club. She was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Avery Dodd officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas W. Allgood, Elberton, and John Allgood Sr., Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Charlotte Coogler Wall, Midway; a brother, Talmedge ''Sonny'' Coogler, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
