Edgar is deceased. OBIT: Edgar W. Smith, 72, of Jena, died at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 1983, at LaSalle General Hospital in Jena. He was a retired oil field worker and member of the Shady Grove Pentecostal Church. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Shady Grove Pentecostal Church with Rev. J.C. Vanover, Rev. Mike Robertson and Rev. Ross Allen officiating. Burial followed at Pine Grove Cemetery of Whitehall with arrangements by Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nettie Smith of Jena; five daughters, Velda Walker of Tullos, Alice Ruth Bryan of Jena, Maudain Sistrunk of Delhi, Clarice Richardson of Pineville and Becky Davidson of Jena; a brother, Huey Smith of Jena; five sisters, Edith Clarkson, Annie Mae Collins, Bonnell White and Gladys Smith, all of Jena and Katie Breland of Magnolia; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He married Nettie Carl Allen. Nettie was born Jujne 5, 1914. Nettie was the daughter of Hugh Hamilton Allen and M. Emoline Hudnel. Nettie died October 31, 1991 in Jena, LaSalle Parish, LA. OBIT: Nettie Carl Allen Smith, 77, of Jena, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 1991, at the LaSalle Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and member of the Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. J.C. Vanover and Dan Davis officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Survivors include five daughters, Velda Walker, Alice Ruth Bailey and Becky Davidson, all of Jena, Maudean Sistrunk of Haughton and Clarice Richardson of Pineville; one brother Rev. Ross Allen of Jena; five half-sisters, Margaret Chevallier of Jonesville; Audie Hailey, Ella Bradford, Lena Hudspeth and Lettie Windham all of Jena; four half-brothers, Tucker Allen and Wayne Allen, both of Jena, Glen Allen of Colfax and Jesse Allen of Shreveport; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers were Gary Richardson, Kery Richardson, Orlan Davidson, Bryan Stewart, Kenny Bryan and Jimmy Ingram.
