Born Sept. 10, 1928, in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Morris Benjamin and Norma Jean George Bland.

She was a homemaker.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Bayes, in 1999;a daughter, Susan Jean Parson; a brother, McKinly Bland; and a sister, Dorothy Bland.

Survivors include two daughters, Johnda Lou Castle of Staffordsville,and Mary Jane Dean of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, John E. Bland of Paintsville; two sisters, Josephine B. Reed of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Renavaye Frisby of Staffordsville; eight grandchildren; and fourgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 28, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, Paintsville, with Harry Neal Frisby officiating. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery, Staffordsville, under direction of Jones-Preston Funeral Home.

She married Clyde Marcus Bayes. Clyde was born Ocstober 22,1927 in Johnson Co., KY. Clyde was the son of Prentiss Sherman Bayers and Vertrice Cochran. Clyde died March 19,1999 in Floyd Co., KY. OBIT: Clyde Marcus Bayes, 71, who died Thursday,March 18, 1999 at Highlands Regional Medical Center,Floyd Co Ky.

Mr. Bayes was born December 22, 1927, in Johnson County, to the late Prentiss Sherman and Vertrice Cochran Bayes.

He was a retired installer from Bell South.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Bland Bayes; two daughters,Johnda Lou Castle of Staffordsville and Mary Jane Hafley of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Glock Bayes of Camden, Ohio; one sister; Katherine Cook of Battlecreek, Michigan; and five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, at Rockhouse Freewill Baptist Church, with Richard Williams and Dick VanHoose officiating. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville.

Helen Levon Bland and Clyde Marcus Bayes had the following children:
