Walter died July 27, 2009 in Argyle, Lee Co., IA. OBIT: Walter Lee Helmick, 77, of Argyle died at 12 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, in Fort Madison Community Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1931, in New Boston, the son of Walter M. and Mary Pearl Anthony Helmick.

He married Mary Rempe on April 8, 1956, in Fort Madison. She survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Robert Helmick of Donnellson and David (Linda) Helmick, also of Donnellson; a daughter, Carol Helmick of Argyle; three grandchildren, Amanda, Todd and Holly; a sister, Arlene Lowary of Argyle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Argyle Presbyterian Church.

He also was a member of the Lee County Farm Bureau. He drove a school bus for the Central Lee School District for 40 years. He enjoyed farming, his dogs, antique tractor pulls, eating cookies and pies, reading, watching RFD TV and his red International Tractors. He loved driving the school bus, having bussed three generations of students. He especially enjoyed conversing with his fellow drivers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory, Donnellson, with the Rev. Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be in the Argyle Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

He married Mary Rempe April 8, 1956 in Fort Madison, IA.

Walter Lee Helmick and Mary Rempe had the following children:
