Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Algood received a telephone message from their son, Pfc. Elmer Algood, Friday, stating he was boarding ship on the next morning from Camp Pendleton, Calif., his destination being marked as Japan.


April 25, 1947
Miss Bernice Algood, daugther of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Algood, has been named valedictorian for the Philadelphia High School senior class, '47, with Eugene Langston, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joab Langston as Salutatorian.


OCT. 29, 1943
Ensign Chalmers Kirk Algood, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Algood, of this city, recently completed a six-month training course for commissioned officers of the Naval Reserve, at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., and has been assigned to duty with the Pacific Fleet. He served as editor-in-chief of the class’s annual, “Tide”.

Mississippi State College students here for the Spring holidays are Miss Nettie Maxwell, Morris Perry, Cecil and Kenneth Yates, George Hector, Ed Werkheiser, Chalmers Algood, Ed Smith, Harold Howell and Jack McNeil.

College students home for the weekend included Misses Dorothy Kerr and Sarah Hand, from MSCW, Misses Ruth Perry and Kate Land, students at Blue Mountain College, Curtis Hays, Morris Perry, Kenneth and Cecil Yates, Abe Thomas, Hugh Latimer, Ed Werkheiser and Chalmers Algood from State College, Cooper Houston from the University of Alabama, and Algernon Cole, Herman Alford and Richard Molpus from Mississippi College.


MAY 31, 1935
Miss Ruth Algood was Valedictorian and Miss Lenora Buntyn was salutatorian of the graduating class of '35 of the Philadelphia High School, selections being bssed upon an excellent school record.


MAY 18, 1934
The 1934 convention of the 5th District Rural Letter Carriers’ will be held in Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 30th, with an all day session, opening at 9:30 o’clock in the morning at the high school auditorium. A large attendance is expected by the local committee in charge, composed of A. L. Algood, chairman, H. E. Lundy, M. R. Pettey, and S. M. Houston.
