Looking For A Job

Monday I had my first experience looking for a job in over three decades. I found it amusing that the last time I looked for employment I’d never seen or heard of a computer.

Resumes certainly have changed since then. The last time I typed one I had several job histories. The folks at the career center told me not to write about anything older that ten years. Hmmm. I ended up with a few lines on a single sheet of paper.

After I got home one of my daughters had to help me go on line at one of those job listing websites and apply for a job. I felt old.

Thursday I attended a job fair here in town. Job fair. I was somewhat disappointed there wasn’t a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, or cotton candy. However, I did cop a few nice ink pens and bottle openers.

Somehow the local paper came across something I’d written about the mill closing down and wanted me to call them. I did. The young reporter said he and his boss had read my account of the men and women losing their jobs and felt like they should interview me. I thought about it a second or two and declined his offer.

This morning I got up, shaved, showered and began getting dressed for church. My wife mentioned something about it being Saturday, not Sunday.

Dang it. Won’t this week ever end?
