Time Moves On. So Do We.

Recently it’s come to my attention that two of my older friends are moving from their homes in Winston County, Mississippi to be closer to children.

I can only imagine this will be a bittersweet move. On on hand they will be leaving behind the familiar and comfortable. Then on the other hand they will be opening a door to a new chapter in their lives by living closer to children and grandchildren.

Thus are the stages of our lives. Time doesn’t stand still.

Forty one years ago I made a move, too. I left our family’s home and all that was familiar to me. My young wife and I moved to Western Kentucky to be nearer her terminally ill mother. Albeit I was younger, the move was challenging emotionally. Everything was different. A different house. A different town. A different church and a different job. Four decades later the memories of my life in Winston County are as fresh on my mind as they happened yesterday.

So it will be with my friends that have left their familiar surroundings this week. Memories can be a wonderful thing. And so can new beginnings.

Some day I may be making a move like the one they’re making and when I do I hope I can face it with the same optimism they are.

Here is wishing them a Happy Thanksgiving and a wonderful new adventure.
