Meet Ted

Going on a bear hunt? That seems to be the going thing these days to entertain children. People are placing bears or other stuffed animals on our porches to entertain kids trapped in their neighborhoods.

It jogged my memory about Teddy. I’ve hung onto him all these years. I found him in the bottom drawer of my nightstand where I had tucked him away.

I suppose Teddy has been around as long as I have. He’s a senior citizen now. Or as my grandchildren say, “He is elderly.”

Teddy is probably the first memory I have lying in my crib. He was my first friend. I’m certain his ears are so tattered because I teethed on them. The stains? Most likely ancient drool.

Somewhere along the years Teddy went blind. First, one eye fell off and was lost. Then another disappeared. One ear was barely hanging on.

Still, I couldn’t part with him. A while back Hobby Lobby helped me restore his sight. Although I don’t think his new eyes look like the original ones. I sewed his ears back on, cleaned him up a little and tucked him away in that drawer to keep him safe.

I thought, Perhaps one of my grandchildren will adopt him some day and take care of him.

Well, I dug him out of that drawer today and introduced him to Spanky.

I think they are going to be good friends
