Senior Year

Tell about your SENIOR year of high school! The longer ago it was, the more fun the answers will be!!

The year was: 1970

1. Did you know your spouse? I hadn’t met her at that time. She was probably living in Minnesota.

2. Did you car pool to school? I had a chauffeur during those years. He drove a long yellow limousine and picked me up in front of my house. When school was over he was parked out front waiting to take me home.

3. What kind of car did you have? My father’s 64 four door Impala. Automatic, AM radio, heater and defroster, cigarette lighter, metal dashboard, dimmer switch in the floor, one key for the ignition and another for the trunk and glovebox. I cannot remember if it had seatbelts. No air conditioning.

4. What kind of car do you have now? 2014 Prius. Satellite radio, dimmer on the column, backup camera, automatic climate control, it tells me when my tires need air and I need to change oil. It will operate in electric stealth mode should I come home late at night and not want to wake anyone. (That would have saved me a lot of trouble back when I was in high school.) 2017 Pilot with all the bells and whistles. 2004 Silverado.

5. It's Friday night...where were you doing? Driving from one Mug-N-Cone on the north end of town to another Mug-N-Cone on the south end of town or sitting in Gentry’s Big Star grocery store parking lot hoping to find a girl that would speak to me.

6. What kind of job did you have in high school? I worked at Jones Men’s Wear, a clothing store. I made $4 a day. The proprietor believed his employees should be doing something every minute of the day. No leaning, propping or loafing. My feet hurt thinking about it.

7. What kind of job do you have now? I work for my dog. He’s lazy.

8. Were you a party animal? I would have been had made more at the clothing store and I’d been invited to a party.

9. Were you a cheerleader? No. But was a cheerleader watcher. The only sport that I excelled at.

10. Were you considered a jock? No. I was a 98 pound weakling. And I was very good at it.

12. Were you a nerd? No. I But I had a couple good friends that were. One could never be trusted to back up a car. The other... was a walking klutz. Both were my personal versions of Google before there was such a thing.

13. Did you get suspended or expelled? No. I never got caught. Hopefully the statute of limitations has run out.

14. Can you sing the fight song? Ummm No. But I could ask Alexa.

15. Were you in band or choir? Choir. I was placed between people who could sing and told to just stand there and mouth the words.

16. Where did you sit for lunch? In the cafeteria at a table. Usually a different table every day. I tended to spread the joy if I was allowed to sit with anyone. Normally never the same table two days in a row. They were a difficult audience.

17. What was your school's full name? Louisville High School.

18. What was your school mascot? A wildcat when we could catch one and keep it alive.

19. If you could go back and do it again would you? Only if I knew then what I Know now. Then again, that probably wouldn’t be a good idea.

20. Did you have fun at Prom? It was called “The Senior Dance” back then. Not really. My date asked me to take her home on our way to the dance. I said something really dumb. It’s a gift that I still have. She was right to go home. It was one of those life lessons I never forgot and will always regret.

21. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with? We are friends on Facebook. She lives in another country called Texas.

22. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? Probably if we ever have one. We were supposed to have our 50th this year, but it had to be canceled because of the pandemic.

23. Are you still in contact with people from school? Yes! I still consider them friends and family.

24. What are/were your school's colors? Maroon and White
