William Henry9 Matthews (James Sanford8, Rebecca7 Allgood, William A.6, John Young5, William4 Algood, Edward3 Allgood, William2, Edward1 Algood) was born in Alexander City, Tallapoosa Co., AL April 30, 1864. William died February 12, 1929 in Gatesville, Coryell Co., TX. Obit: The Rev. W. H. Matthews, presiding elder of the Gatesville District for the Methodist Church, died Tuesday morning at the family home in this city. He was born at Crystal City, Ala. April 30, 1864, and came to Texas in 1882 and married Miss Anne Poole in 1892. "Besides his wife, there survives the following children: Mrs. Warren Ambrose of this city, W. H. Matthews, Jr. of Amarillo, Mrs. Ward Maxwell of Fort Worth, Mrs. Lester Boykin of Clarendon and Ben Matthews of Tehuacana and two brothers and a sister, S. Y. Matthews of Dallas, Tom Matthews and Mrs. C. A. McClesty of Temple. "The body will be taken to Waco for burial and the funeral services held at St. John's Methodist Church Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by the Revs. Gid J. Bryan of Gatesville, E. B. Hawk of Fort Worth, E. W. Bridges of Waco, and P. E. Riley, presiding elder of the Waco district. "The Rev. Mr. Matthews was the first commissioner of the Methodist Episcopal Church Hospital at Fort Worth for five years and came from there to his work here." William was buried in Waco, TX
He married Anne Elizabeth Poole November 30, 1892 in Lorena, McLennan Co., TX. Anne was born May 9, 1870 in Mastersville, McLennan Co. TX. Anne was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Poole and Sarah (Sallie) Smith Morris. Anne died December 16, 1952 in Tarrant Co., TX.

9040 iii. William Henry Matthews JR was born April 30, 1896.
9041 iv. Alice Louise Matthews was born October 27, 1897.
9042 v. Edwin Poole Matthews was born in TX August 26, 1899. Edwin died June 20, 1900 in Taylor, Williamson Co., TX.
9043 vi. Lucy Edna Matthews was born August 3, 1901.
9044 vii. Benjamin Albion Matthews was born August 31, 1903.
9045 viii. Jackson Sanford Matthews was born September 26, 1905. Jackson died June 27, 1906.
9046 ix. Morris Morgan Matthews was born May 20, 1907. Morris died June 10, 1907.
