He married twice. He married Isetta Jane Sasser October 13, 1881 in Tallapoosa Co. AL. Isetta was born June 2, 1862 in Tallapoosa Co. AL. Isetta was the daughter of James Dison Sasser and NANCY CHRISTIAN. Isetta died September 30, 1902 in Piedmont, Calhoun Co., AL. Iseeta is buried in the Sasser-Christian Cemetery, a small family cemetery 2 miles north of Alexander City, Alabama

He married Effie Louise McKibbon October 15, 1903 in Tallapoosa Co. AL. Effie was born February 28, 1878. Effie died 1969 in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., AL. Henry was a Methodist minister from 1880 to 1920 for the North Alabama conference Methodist Episcopal Church South.

Henry Sanford Matthews and Isetta Jane Sasser had the following children:

 9096 i. Willis Christian10 Matthews was born in Tallapoosa Co. AL October 15, 1882. Willis died Abt. 1913 in San Antonio or Galveston, TX. Willis apparently disappeared in 1913 while serving in the U. S. Army at Ft Sam Houston, TX. No trace has ever been found.

 9097 ii. Chalmers Sasser Matthews was born in Blountsville, Blount Co., AL July 6, 1884. Chalmers died July 29, 1885 in Tallapoosa Co., AL.

 9098 iii. Rufus Henry Matthews was born January 6, 1886.

 9099 iv. Eddie Lucille Matthews was born November 25, 1887.

 9100 v. Mary Levis Matthews was born September 12, 1889.

 9101 vi. Thomas Parker Matthews was born September 24, 1891.

 9102 vii. Julia Etta (Jet) Matthews was born July 23, 1893.

 9103 viii. Anne Italia (Tally) Matthews was born February 19, 1896.

 9104 ix. Framces Itasca (Tassie) Matthews was born in Munford, Talladega Co., AL February 19, 1896. Framces died July 17, 1952 in Roanoke, Randolph Co. AL.

 9105 x. Ernest Britton Matthews was born July 7, 1899.

 9106 xi. Charles Dison Matthews was born January 15, 1901.
