Mary died October 18, 2005 in Yadkinville, Yadkin Co., NC. Obit: Mrs. Ruth Hutchens Holcomb died peacefully Tuesday morning, Oct. 18, 2005, at Willowbrook Healthcare Center in Yadkinville. Ruth was born March 23, 1911, in Yadkin County to Harrison W. and Versie A. Hutchens. She spent her entire life in the Center community of Yadkin County. She was a loyal wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She operated Ruth's Variety Store, formerly P&N 5&10, for 38 years. Ruth was a faithful member of Center United Methodist Church. In October 1935, she was married to G. Bickett Holcomb, who preceded her in death in November 1995 after 60 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death are a brother, Herbert "Buck" Hutchens of Yadkinville; and sisters, Gladys Weatherman and Lillian Hutchens, both of Winston-Salem. Surviving are her daughter, Lois Holcomb Williams of Yadkinville; two grandchildren, Paul Johnson Williams of Yadkinville and Elizabeth Ruth (Volker) Mueller of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Amanda M. Will! iams of Jonesville and Caroline Mueller of Columbus; two sisters, Joyce (Eugene) Dinkins of Yadkinville and Betty Thompson of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Gilbert Hutchens and Wallace (Dorothy) Hutchens of Yadkinville; a sister-in-law, Imogene Hutchens, of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, before the service at Gentry Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Oliver Helsabeck officiating. Interment will follow in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Willowbrook for the special care given Ruth during her five-year stay and to friends for all their support. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Center United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1500 Center Road, Boonville, NC 27011.
