Jessie died September 14, 2009 in London, OH. OBIT: Mrs. Ruth Martin Steelman, 88, of London, Ohio, and formerly of Kannapolis, NC, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at the home of her daughter in London, Ohio. Born March 29, 1921 in Yadkin County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of John Frank and Gertrude Jane (Allgood) Martin. For 45 years, she was employed with Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC. Survivors are her daughter, Wanda (Ted) Henry of London; two grandsons, Joseph Duane (Anna) Henry and Jonathan Lee (Amy) Henry, both of London; two great-granddaughters, Haylee Jo and Josephine Madison Henry both of London; three sisters, Mary (John) Brock of Mocksville, Betty (Jack) Barnes of King and Faye Hilton of High Point; a brother-in-law, R.P. Martin of Mocksville; three sisters-in-law, Frances and Anna Martin of Kannapolis and Phyllis Parkerson of Greensboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Joseph Clyde Steelman (who died August 28, 1972); a sister, Joan Martin; brothers Roger, Fred, and Paul Martin; and brother in law, Bill Hilton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Jackson Park Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC, with the Reverend Warner Bumgardner officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Courtney Baptist Church Cemetery where the Reverend Jim Martin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday in the Jackson Park Baptist Church. Lady' s Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC is assisting the family with arrangements.
She married Joseph Clyde Steelman. Joseph was born December 21, 1915. Joseph died August 28, 1972.
