Opal Frances¹¹ Hicks (Bessie Louise¹⁰ Huey, Amanda Araminta⁹ Hutcheson, Ellen (Ellender)⁸ Hogue, Sarah (Sally) Hudson⁷ Allgood, William A.⁶, John Young⁵, William⁴ Algood, Edward³ Allgood, William², Edward¹ Algood) was born in Rome, Tallapoosa Co., AL January 19, 1921. Opal died November 27, 2002 in Dothan, Houston Co., AL.

She married Millard C. Nelson November 2, 1946. Millard was born April 28, 1924 in Marshall Co., AL. Millard died April 24, 2009 in Dothan, Houston Co., AL. OBIT: Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today, Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Baxter and John Hodges (USAF, LtCol, Ret.) officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:45 until 3:45 today prior to service time.

Mr. Nelson was born April 28, 1924 in Marshall County, Alabama and lived the early years of his life there. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army and served in World War II for three years. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1965 retiring as Master Sergeant. He was employed with Page Aircraft for 7 years and later worked with the State ABC Board from 1974-1987. Mr. Nelson was a resident of Dothan since 1961. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, a lifetime member of the Dothan Elks Lodge and a member of the Green Valley Country Club.

Mr. Nelson is predeceased by his wife, Opal H. Nelson; a son, Dr. Carl Nelson; a daughter, Frances Nelson; three brothers, Albert Nelson, George McCoy and Bud Jones; and two sisters, Mattie M. Broyles and Betty Beasley.

Survivors include five brothers, Harold H. Nelson and Jack McCoy, both of Albertville, and John Nelson, Ronald Nelson and Donald Nelson, all of Texas; five sisters, Janice, Audrey, and Frances, all of Texas, Sarah Jane of Albertville, and Clementine of Florida; his step-mother, Maggie M. Nelson of Texas; a granddaughter, Donna Hunt and husband, Josh; two great-grandchildren, Lane and Griffin Hunt, all of Andalusia; a special friend, Annette King of Dothan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Opal Frances Hicks and Millard C. Nelson had the following children:
