Harvie was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II and Korean Wars, and a member of New Life Fellowship Ministries in Tinley Park. He is survived by his wife, Sarah I. (Harmon) Jackson of the home in Homewood; two daughters and sons-inlaw, Joanna and the Rev. Douglas Gugudan, and Marilynn and the Rev. Robert Mitchell; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Margie Jackson, Claude and Roberta Jackson and Wayne and Joann Jackson; three sisters, Imogene Tate, Iva and Bill Gepford, and Nina Jackson; one sister-in-law, Opal Jackson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roosevelt Jackson, Donald Jackson and Jessie Jackson. Visitation was held until time of services at Ponder Funeral Home. His sons-in-law, the Rev. Robert Mitchell and the Rev. Douglas Gugudan, officiated. Burial followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with full military honors provided by the Missouri Funeral Honors Program. He married Sarah I. Harmon December 3, 1948 in Sikeston, Scott Co., MO. Sarah was born October 8, 1922 in Sikeston, Scott Co., MO. Sarah was the daughter of James L. Harmon and Anna Margaret Moser. Sarah died August 2, 2012 in Homewood, Cook Co., IL. OBIT: Sarah I. Jackson, age 89, died October 2, 2012 in Homewood, Illinois.
She was born October 8, 1922 in Sikeston, Missouri, daughter of the late James L. and Anna Margaret (Moser) Harmon. She had worked as a bookkeeper before retiring.
On December 3, 1948 in Sikeston, she married Harvie S. Jackson; he preceded her in death February 1, 2010.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna & Rev. Douglas Gugudan of Richton Park, Illinois and Marilynn & Rev. Robert Mitchell of Homewood; three brothers, Rev. James L. Harmon of Wichita Falls, TX, Rev. Bill Harmon of Pacific, MO and Finas Harmon of Dover, AR; two sisters, Helen Standridge of Lufkin, TX and Peggy Glover of Dinuba, CA; four grandchildren, Michelle Hitchcock, Sara & William Thompson Jr., Joseph Gugudan and Timothy Gugudan; and five great grandchildren, Jackson Mitchell, Asheligh Thompson, Madison Thompson, Adam Thompson and Berry Hitchcock.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Benedict Harmon and Rev. Ralph Harmon; and four sisters, Virginia Bennett, Dorothy Wilson, Rev. Anna Mae Harmon and Betty Lou Sjelin.
Interment in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
