He married Verba Lee Dixon. Verba was born September 20,1916 in Tifton Co., GA. Verba was the daughter of James Forrest Dixon and Ethel Green. Verba died March 18, 2003 in Valdosta, Lowndes Co., GA. OBIT: Verba Lee Dixon Killgore, 87, of Valdosta, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at her home. Born on Sept. 20, 1916, in Tifton to the late James F. and Ethel E. Dixon, she had been a resident of Valdosta for the past 65 years. Mrs. Killgore was a member of the Harvest United Methodist Church. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Valdosta Chapter No. 244 Order of the Eastern Star, past president of Ladies of Nasah, and a long-time member of the Wymodausis Club of Valdosta. She was a nominee for Valdosta Woman of the Year in 1958.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Robert S. Killgore Sr. of Valdosta; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert S. "Bobby" Killgore Jr., William Freddy and Phyllis Killgore of Valdosta, James Frederick and Diane Killgore of Lakeland; five grandchildren, Robin (Philip) Vickery of Lake Park, Jim (Melissa) Killgore of Hahira, Kim Killgore of Valdosta, Will Killgore of Atlanta, Leigh Ellen Killgore of Athens; two stepgrandchildren, Missy (Bryan) Mullican and Tony Watson of Lakeland; three great-grandchildren, Regan Taylor, Mackensie Killgore, Jud Killgore; two stepgreat-grandchildren, John Tyler Vickery and Brock Vickery; sister, Dorothy Dixon of Milledgeville.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2004, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Skip Van Nus officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
