David died May 18,2014. OBIT: OBIT: David Allen Flexter, 67, of Boyd, IL, passed away at Centralia Manor on May 18, 2014 after a long illness, He was born on June 18, 1946 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Henry and Rosemary (Cushman) Flexter and was raised in Rinard, IL. He was a 1964 graduate of Cisne High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University, The University of Illinois and Frontier Community College, In 1967, he volunteered for the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam with the II Corps Combat Engineers near Pleiku and Dak To earning a Bronze Star and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. David retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 35 years as an Engineer Technician. He actively farmed and operated the Johnsonville Farm Center. David was a member of the Boyd Christian Church, Sod Busters, Antique Power Club, the VFW, was founding member of the Gateway Farm Toy Collector's Club, a former member of Wayne County Farm Bureau Board, Ag in the Classroom, and Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation Board. In Retirement, Mr. Flexter enjoyed selling tractor parts, attending antique tractor shows, doing crop survey work for NASDA, and spending time with his family. His hobbies included: collecting toy trains, toy tractors, and antique farm equipment. He is survived by Judy, his wife of 43 years. David and Judy were married on July 18, 1970, in Dallas, TX. They have two sons, Trent Flexter and wife Tammy of Oblong, Il, and Seth Flexter and wife Megan of Mt. Vernon, IL; and one daughter, April (Flexter) Tapp and husband Steve of Murray, KY. His grandchildren are Garrett, Grace, Atticus, and Layla. Also surviving are his two brothers, Kenneth Flexter of Rinard, IL and Kevin Flexter and wife Debbie of Claremont, IL. Visitation will be held at Boyd Christian Church on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Walkthrough Ceremony by Veterans of Foreign Wars post #1376 at 6:00 p.m.. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at the Boyd Cemetery, with Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Mt. Vernon American Legion Post # 141 will conduct graveside Military Rites.
