Morris died October 3, 2004 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. Morris Allen Salter, 78, Terre Haute, crossed over early on the morning of October 3, 2004, in Union Hospital, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. A 52-year resident of this city, he was in the finance and banking industry, first with Commercial Credit Corp., where he served as district manager and was named Loan Man of the Year in 1967, and lastly with Mutual Federal Savings, from which he retired in 1990, as the mortgage loan officer. After retirement, he chose to work part time in retail sales for several years at Northside Furniture. He was born September 20, 1926, in Vincennes, to John D. Salter and Della Inman Salter. In Vincennes, he met and married Patty Lee Cunningham, his wife of nearly 56 years, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Stephanie Salter of San Francisco and Deborah Fenoglio of Danville, Ind.; his son-in-law, David Fenoglio; and five grandchildren, Natalee Manwarring of Brownsburg, Piper Manwarring of Westminster, Md., Haley Manwarring of San Francisco and their father, Rick Manwarring of Terre Haute, as well as Brian Fenoglio of Indianapolis and Amy Fenoglio of Bloomington. His surviving brothers and sisters include Gordon Salter of Vincennes, Max Salter of Brook, Sharon Jacobs and Bobby Dale Salter of Florida; and dozens of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Jimmy Joe Salter; and his sisters, Rosemary Shapiro, Margie Gregory and Patty Gaynor. In 1987, he and his wife joined the Roman Catholic Church through the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults program at St. Benedict's Church, and they are members of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. He belonged to the Euclid Lodge 513 Free and Accepted Masons and the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and was an active Shriner with the Zorah Shrine, where he served as Potentate in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in both the European and Asian theaters, and was a member of Krietenstein American Legion Post 104. Visitation will be in Callahan Funeral Home at 2425 Wabash Ave., on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 2 p.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, with the Rev. Russell Zint officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zorah Children's Hospital Transportation; or to Catholic Charities of Terre Haute. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

He married Patty Lee Cunningham December 26, 1948. Patty was born April 4, 1930 in Vincennes, Knox Co., IN. Patty was the daughter of Orvile Noah Cunniongham and Sutra Agnes Ford. Patty died July 13, 2011 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN.

Morris Allen Salter and Patty Lee Cunningham had the following children:
