He married Kathleen Mary Griffin June 7, 1941 in Pendleton, OR. Kathleen was born April 26, 1913 in Seattle, King Co., WA. Kathleen was the daughter of Charles G. Griffin and Amy Watson. Kathleen died July 28, 2000 in Touchet, Walla Walla Co., WA. Obit: Kathleen Griffin Hawman, 87, a resident of Quail Run Retirement Community, 1701 Plaza Way, died July 28, 2000, at Walla Walla General Hospital.
Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice through Professional Funeral Director & Crematory, 315 W. Alder St.
Mrs. Hawman was born April 26, 1913, in Seattle to Charles G. and Amy Watson Griffin. She moved to Pendleton as a child, attended area elementary schools and graduated from Pendleton High School.
She married Arthur L. Hawman June 7, 1941, in Pendleton and they moved to Walla Walla. Her longtime wish was to attend college. After her children were grown, she attended Whitman College and graduated at the top of her class in 1972 with a literature degree. Mr.
Hawman died in 1987.
She excelled as a cook, loved to entertain and attend the theater and was an avid bridge player. She volunteered many hours at the Fort Walla Walla Museum gift shop and at Carnegie Art Center. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the Walla Walla Woman's Reading Club, Lady Elks No. 287, Entre Nous Club and American Association of University Women. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Frank of Everett, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Merrilee Hawman of Touchet; two sisters, Pat Peltier of East Wenatchee and Nancy Griffin of Portland; a brother, Geoff Griffin of Pendleton; and three grandchildren. t
