William died February 25, 2012 in Athens, McMinn Co TN. OBIT: William Dwight Peeler, 63, of Athens, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at his residence.
He was known as "Papaw Dwight" to most kids. A son of the late William Earl and Eva Marie Peeler, he was a lifelong resident of McMinn County. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, RVM Cross of Gallantry with palm and frame and Rifle Marksmanship Badge.
A graduate of McMinn Central High School and Cleveland State Community College, he was a member of Englewood Church of God, was part of the Mayfield Farm community and was vice president of J&S Restaurants for 36 years. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Dewayne Peeler; and one sister, Glenna Faye Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Linda Peeler of Athens; one son, William Marcus Peeler of Athens; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Ann and Allen Boggess; two granddaughters, Savannah Marie Parker and her fiancé, Jake Hyde, and Jordyn Peeler; one grandson, Blake Peeler; one great-grandson, Kolton Lane Hyde; two brothers, Gordon Peeler and David Earl Peeler, both of Etowah; seven sisters and four brothers-in-law, Patsy and Bill Devine, Vita Lee and Clifford Garrett of Englewood, Charlotte and E.H. Croft of Madisonville, Lavada Peeler and Loretta Peeler, both of Etowah, Ruth and J.C. Valentine of Tellico Plains, and Earlene Womac of Riceville; a special friend, Brayden Humphrey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at Englewood Church of God with Pastor Scott Cardin officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Sunrise Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Parker, Mark Peeler, Blake Peeler, Jake Hyde, Allen Boggess, Heath Webb, Ryan Shults, Ed Stuteville, Donny Reeves and Mike Hawkins.
William Dwight Peeler and Linda Faye Givens had the following children:
