He was born May 12, 1919, in Springfield, Missouri, son of Samuel and Stella (Jones) Greathouse.
Urban was an oilfield compressor mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his wife, Opal Corlee (Flessa) Greathouse in August 2008.
Urban is survived by his daughters, Lynda Deanna Strouhal and husband Oswald of West Columbia and Janice V. Oefinger and husband Larry of Hondo; five granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, with Pastor David Mayer officiating. Interment will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section.
He married Opal Coralee Flessa. Opal was born December 9, 1919 in Yale, Payne Co., OK. Opal was the daughter of William W. Flessa and Annie R. Taylor. Opal died August 10, 2008 in Hondo, Harris Co., TX. OBIT: Opal Coralee Flessa Greathouse, age 88, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008.
Opal was born December 9, 1919, in Yale, OK, the daughter of William Walter and Anna Retta (Taylor) Flessa.
A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, she called herself a Domestic Engineer. Her family was her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Josie; and sisters, Lillie Belle Stewart, Beatrice Katherine Gammel, and Doris Helen Clour.
Opal is survived by spouse, Urban C. Greathouse; her daughters, Lynda D. Strouhal and husband Oswald of West Columbia, TX, and Janice V. Oefinger and husband Larry L. of Hondo. She is also survived by five granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, William W. Flessa Jr. and wife Emma; sisters, Wilma Lee Garret and husband Gene, Velma Gene Bishop, Phylis Nadine Stewart, and Anna Retta Stacey and husband Jim.
Graveside service was held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, with Pastor David Mayer of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating.
Urban Carter Greathouse and Opal Coralee Flessa had the following children:
