Clifford died Marxh 29, 2010 in Bemidji, Beltrami Co., MN. OBIT: Clifford Darris Gilchrist, 90, of Bemidji died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
Memorial Services will be 10:00 am Friday, April 2, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Bemidji with Rev. John Roberts officiating. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with the arrangements. A private family interment will be at Eckles Township cemetery in rural Bemidji.
He was born Dec. 30, 1919 in Mahaska County, Norren Township, Iowa, the son of George and Bessie (Goodge) Gilchrist. He was raised and educated in Iowa attending school in White Oak and Delta, Iowa. Cliff moved to Solway, MN when he was 18 years old. He farmed at first. Later he started logging and continued to log into his 80’s. He married Betty Joan Kolbuss on May 11, 1946 in Walker, MN. He built 2 pulp loaders and a skidder. He built a log home in 1984- 1986 from logs he harvested. He had a love of singing, playing harmonica, piano and accordion. He loved to recite poetry and had a seemingly unlimited supply. His repertoire included many serious poems and some funny poems which he would recite to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of his favorite poems was “The Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He loved socializing with his neighbors and church family and having coffee at a local restaurant.
He is survived by his wife- Betty Gilchrist of Bemidji 2 Daughters- Judy (Pete) Imbrunone of West Bloomfield, Michigan Joyce (Merlin) Vold of Bemidji 7 grandchildren 10 great grandchildren a sister and a brother and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Honorary Casketbearers will be his grandchildren- Bryan Vold, Kathy Kerssen, David Vold, Lisa Schwedt, Jason Schwedt and his great grandchildren.
He married Betty Joan Kolbuss May 11, 1946 in Walker, MN. Betty was born February 11, 1929. Betty died November 25, 2011 in Bemidji, Beltrami Co., MN. OBIT: Betty Joan (Kolbuss) Gilchrist, 82, of Bemidji, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011. A celebration of life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Bemidji, Minn. She is survived by two daughters, Judy (Pete) Imbrunone and Joyce (Merlin) Vold; five siblings, Dona May Weaver, of Brainerd, Alice Dibble, Ione (Rod) Porter, Jerry (Joyce) Kolbuss, and Jim (Beth) Kolbuss; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
